| Hope
Hope came from Animal Control, having been found wandering with recent stitches from spaying. No owner was found and she was placed in a foster home where she hid under a chair for three weeks, eating very little. She was adopted by a family with a 13 year old boy who would give her the constant attention and support she needed. |

Hope's Letter to Rescue
Hello World--Here I Am!! Memorial Day weekend, 1977 was the beginning of my new life. That was the date when I went home with my new family. So this year I'm going to count as my first birthday. After the people at Rabies Control found me wandering and scared, they called Dobe Rescue. I lived at Donna's and Pam's houses, while they looked for a new home for me. But I didn't' want to live any more. Rescue knew that some people must have done some awful things to me, and I couldn't take it anymore. I just hid in a corner or under a chair. I think that Donna called it "shelter shock." Teri told the Rescue people about a lady who came a lot to her store with a fuzzy--I guess that you call it a Poodle and the boy who came with her to pet Kimo. He really wanted a Doberperson all his own. Pam told them about me and they came to take me to my new home. I lived in the boy's room, so that I could have a place all my own. He stayed with me most all the time and his Mom brought his meals to him in the room. His people food really smelled good and I decided to try some. That day we ate scrambled eggs, toast and some kind of meat. The boy never yelled at me or hit me, and he spent lots of time petting me and telling me how pretty I was. I didn't feel pretty and I wondered why he was so nice to me. His Mom would take to me too and she fixed a bed for him on the floor right next to mine. They had to almost carry me outside when I needed to go, because I didn't even have the will to move and I was used to being uncomfortable. I wanted to tell the boy and his Mom how much I liked them, but I was afraid to talk, bark or lick them. I even forgot how to wag my tail. That is all past now and I have lots of friends and a super life. The boy is my own special person and I love other people too. Little fuzzy dog is a good friend because she taught me how to play and told me it was OK to bark. The first day that I barked, I went behind a table and practiced all the barking sounds because I liked to talk again. General, another Rescue dog lives here now and we play and chase each other. There are cats here too, but we aren't allowed to chase them. Now, I know that I am pretty, because love makes me feel pretty. I am proud of who I am and I like to make my people happy. I was even on television on the Montage program when the Rescue people told how they help Dobes like me. Sometimes the boy and I play rough; sometimes we just sit and talk. We go for long walks or rides and I even sleep on his bed. He is my best friend and I know that he will never let anyone hurt me again. HOPE |
